Dollars spent at the spa can add up fast: massage, facial, manicure, pedicure. After tacking on a tip and a bottle of nail polish (for touch-ups), your relaxing day can really stress your bank account. The good news is you can recreate a spa experience at home with do-it-yourself beauty recipes. Save even more by using ingredients in multiple concoctions. Sweet almond oil is used in all three of these pamper-me potions:
- 8-9 fresh strawberries, tops removed
- 2 tbsp. honey
- 1 tbsp. sweet almond oil
- 1 tbsp. fresh lemon juice
Slice the strawberries and toss in a medium-sized bowl. Mash strawberries with a fork until smooth. Add honey, oil and lemon juice. Stir until well-blended. Apply cream to face and let sit for 15-20 minutes. Wash off with warm water.
Natural Nail Polish
- 1 tbsp. sweet almond oil
- ½ tbsp. powdered white clay
- ½ tbsp. henna dye (in the color of your choice)
Use a small bowl that you reserve for this purpose only. Add oil and clay to the bowl and mix to a smooth paste. Stir in henna dye to create desired color. (Hint: henna can dry out mixture, so add more oil if needed.) Apply the paste “polish” to nails with an old nail polish brush or cotton-tip swab. Allow the henna to set for at least one hour to achieve a deeper, more even color. Once set, dip a wash cloth in warm water and gently wipe away the paste – say hello to naturally tinted nails!
Soothing Foot Scrub
1 cup sea salt
1 cup sweet almond oil
A few drops of lavender essential oil
In a medium-sized bowl, mix together sea salt and oil to create your base scrub. Add a few drops of lavender oil and stir until blended. Scoop out a tablespoon of the scrub and massage into your feet. Wash off with soap and warm water. Keep any extra scrub in a glass jar, away from direct sunlight. Stir well before each use.
